Soldano Supercharger GTO Clone

Soldano Supercharger GTO Clone – As often is the case fantastic gear works it’s way out of production.  In the case of the Soldano Supercharger GTO it was rumored that cost to build the unit’s became prohibitive. The Soldano Supercharger GTO is a big complicated pedal. The housing alone probably cost more than many pedals so I can buy the “cost” theory though I think there might have been other reasons. This leaves the guitarist a few choices. Find a used one , buy a clone or build one on your own from this schematic. I do not recommend the latter as the Soldano Supercharger GTO operates off of household line voltage and not a 9 volt battery or wall wart. To that end below is a list of Soldano Supercharger GTO clones that I have tracked down. I cannot confirm how well they reproduce the tones of the Soldano Supercharger GTO as I do not own any of the Soldano Supercharger GTO Clones. I do however own the real thing.

Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal

Boss GT-100 Multi-Effects Pedal

Over the years I have had a few  multi-effects such as the Line 6 Guitar Port, Line 6 POD 2 and a Vox AD50VT. Then I bought a Digitech GNX-4. I found the GNX4 to be overly complicated to use as I spent more time fiddling with it than actually playing. It frustrated me so much I swore off of the multi-effects and modelers. Well as they say time heals all wounds. That said I recently decided it was time to look at the current crop of modeling multi-effects as I was looking for something suitable to my apartment dwelling lifestyle. Something that could be used direct, with headphones as well as the 4 cable method with a traditional guitar amplifier. I wanted something that would sound good with minimal effort. The candidates were as follows

  • Line 6 POD HD500

  • Line 6 POD HD PRO

  • Fender Mustang

  • Vox Tonelab EX

  • Zoom G5

I spent several evenings reading reviews, tracking down clips from reviewers whose musical taste agreed with mine and finally I spent many hours on YouTube. In the end the choice was much easier than I had expected. The Boss GT-100. The Boss GT-100 offered much improved sound quality over previous models, it excels at the tones I prefer and seek and best of all it offers a simplicity of operation not typical of these types of guitar multi-effects pedals.

The decision was made and being a member of Amazon’s “Prime” I ordered the GT-100 from here and had the Boss GT-100 in my hands in two days for $549 with free shipping. I had the unit shipped to work which made for a long day. I was so excited I unboxed the Boss GT-100 at the office so I could plug in the moment I got home.

Boss GT-100 Construction

The Boss GT-100 is built like a tank and looks great. Controls are labeled well and easy to read. Typical Boss construction. The two display screens are bright and easy to read even without my eye glasses.

Boss GT-100 First Impressions

Upon getting home I  grabbed my other new purchase of the week a Schecter HELLRAISER C-1 FR-S electric guitar and proceeded to plug in and power up the GT-100. My initial impressions were using headphones connected directly to the headphone jack of the Boss GT-100. First off the manual was not need to figure out how to navigate the factory preset patches as well as edit and save the modified patches as my home. The dual screens and adjustments are very intuitive. If you can dial in a stompbox you will have not trouble navigating the Boss GT-100. I set out to spend some time playing all the factory presets. While I did accomplish that task I found myself so enjoying all the medium and high gain patches that I barely touched the others. The GT-100 has exactly the tones I’m seeking and many of the factory presets are good enough to serve as a starting place or palette to create your own personal patches. I also like the fact that Boss did not load the unit with a bunch of useless patches. While there are some that will be of little value it is of nowhere near the amount the competition gives you. Kudos to Boss.

GT-100 Fx FloorBoard

After I was done playing with the factory patches I thought I would give the Boss Librarian and Editor a test with the 25 patch add on available from Boss. The Boss librarian and editor is a dismal tool in fact probably the only area where the competition crushes Boss. However keep in mind that the design of the Boss GT-100 is such that editing the patches with a pc is not required due to the simplicity of the Boss GT-100 itself. You will only need the Boss utility for downloading batched from the internet. If your a person who needs a good editor and librarian on par with the competition fear not. there is an open source free Boss GT series editor called FX Floorboard. In the case of the GT-100 it’s version is the GT-100 Fx FloorBoard.

Boss GT-100 Closing Thoughts

We all know there is always a honeymoon period with guitar gear and especially multi-effects pedals like the Boss GT-100. Over the next few weeks I will dive in further with discussions of tone as well as using the Boss GT-100 as an effects units for a traditional amp with the four cable method because make no mistake the Boss GT-100 is also a black box off Boss stompbox pedals. There will also be discussions of the amp simulations and how well Boss emulates the competitions amps as well as their own Roland JC 120 and the unique amps Boss created just for the GT-100.

TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay & Looper

TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay & Looper

TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay & Looper

Four Flashback delays combine into a new day for delay.

Flashback Delay, the sounds, the vibe, TonePrints, the entire package – it was a smash hit that rocked the world. But TC is more about moving things forward and listening to the feedback from the guitar community. And so, when wishes for things like presets and tap-tempo started rolling in, they listened.

Delay Done Right
Think of your favorite delay sounds and chances are it’s a TC sound. TC’s 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay is one of the most coveted pieces of gear out there today. They made sure Flashback X4 delivers the legendary TC quality at every turn. From the awesome digital 2290 sounds to beautiful analog tape echoes and more exotic vibes of a reverse delay, Flashback X4 delivers every delay sound under the sun – past, present and future.

So many guitarists out there wanted presets, and the ability to switch between delay sounds instantly. Using Flashback’s amazing sounds but switching between flavors made sense, so Flashback X4 caters to that wish perfectly with three presets that can be as different and varied as you need them to be.

Creativity In Your Own Tempo
The tap tempo feature was a no-brainer as that is already a fan favorite with some of our other delay pedals. You can easily set delay times or sync up with for example a drummer. Match delays to your guitar rhythms or solo ideas and diversify your playing with different tempos.

No Time Wasted – Plug And Go!
One of life’s nice little surprises is that Flashback X4 comes with a 9 V DC power supply included, so you dont have to waste any time and can get straight to rocking.

Express Yourself
Flashback X4s total dedication to delay shines brightly in the expression pedal input. Many guitarists dream to have direct control over delay parameters and Flashback X4 gives you exactly that. But it’s just not one parameter you can control, you can choose to control either the delay time, the feedback or the delay level of your sounds, giving you unprecedented control (and a good reason to pretend you are Steve Morse).

USB / Beam
Yep – there’s a USB port. But it’s not for boring stuff, we’ve got some features in store that we want to put out once we’ve perfected them or once music is ready. And those updates would be free. You can also load TonePrints via the USB, but all the hip kids are doing it via the TonePrint app on their smartphone. It works wirelessly and flawlessly and it’s also totally free.

I/O Stealing The Show
Flashback X4 allows for MIDI clock sync – perfecting delay times to your exact wishes. You can change presets and control X4 externally, for example if you wanna have it in a rack or safely in your backline.

X4 Gives Great Headroom
From guitar- to amp effect loop signals, Flashback X4 handles anything you throw at it with ease.

Creativity In Your Own Tempo
Instantly synch up your delays with your band’s tempo, the ideas in your head or whatever else is guiding you without taking your hands of the guitar or bending over the pedal. Simply tap the tempo with your foot and get on with things!

Maximum Signal Integrity
Flashback X4 goes with the flow like other TonePrint enabled pedals. Whatever your set-up or situation, Flashback X4 can adapt and guarantee optimal signal integrity – via small dip switches, Flashback X4 can be set to either True Bypass or Buffered Bypass.

The World At Your Feet
A much requested feature from the original Flashback Delay: presets. here they are, three presets at your disposal but now the questions becomes: how to divide your time between three great accesible sounds?!

Separated At Birth
In Flashback X4, the delay engine is completely separate from the one handling looping. This means total dedication to the sound you want to get and the cool ability to add delay to your loops.

Level The Playing Field
Change how loud the loops that are being played back to you are. Turn clockwise for maximum you, counterclockwise for a more conservative approach.

Delay’s Delight
15 delay types are at your disposal, all done in world renowned TC quality. Have a look, you know you wanna try them.

Room To Rock
Flashback X4 is equipped with four TonePrint slots, allowing you to load your favorite signature delay effects as done by the artists on the TonePrint roster. Oh, and since this is the 21st. century, you can load TonePrints via your smartphone.

Loopy For Creativity
Flashback X4 has a 40 second looper so you can jam to your heart’s content, and they’ve added an ‘undo’ function to speed up workflow and increase fun.

Simply Delay
Flashback X4’s controls and I/O options are aimed at one thing: making life easier for you. Dialing in sounds, loading TonePrints and integrating it into your set-up is a synch. There’s Mono and Stereo options and even an expression pedal, allowing you to control any delay parameter available.

Time For Tones
Turn this dial all the way down for really short repeats. Turn up until you find your preferred amount of delay. Turning it all the way up will give you a whopping seven seconds of delay time in most modes.

Ember To Inferno
Subtle to screaming, this is the knob you rely on for setting the volume of your delay level.

Positive Feedback
No, this is not the Marshall-like squeal we know and love, but it does allow you to set the number of repeats you want from short and slappy to total timewarp.

Mix And Match
The subdivision selector on Flashback X4 allows you to choose quarter notes or dotted eights, but has a nifty feature that allows you to select or mix either/both when using dual delays, adding flexibility, creativity and unexpected results!
